Jour 101 Interview
While getting to know students around the Ohio University campus, the effects of media discussed in the Journalism 101 class were easily noticed. Although we are similar in being Ohio University students, the variety of importance, interaction, and opinions is wide-ranged.
All students interviewed have daily interaction with the media. However, the type of media they follow differs. Although we learned that different mediums could relay different messages, most students don’t compare, therefore they don’t notice. Their main concern is convenience. College students don’t have time, nor do they make time for news throughout the day. Most use television, but they aren’t looking for something specific. If that is the case, they will go online and find the exact story they’re looking for.
Although finding time is hard, everyone agrees that daily news interaction is important. By paying attention to the media daily, students feel aware of what is happening in their world and beyond. They want to stay current. Again, this is on a convenience basis. Those who want to discuss news later, use the news as a support system for their opinion. They follow news stations and reporters who agree with their opinion.
