Interviews Media Effects Final

Finding a connection between college students and media effects is a simple task; the two merely go hand in hand. Across campus, students were found to interact and expose themselves to the variety of media outlets on a daily basis. Despite the unique variety and separate demands of students, media catered to all individuals’ needs in a positive way. The majority of students utilized television and Internet resources for information. Although entertainment was a popular media aspect, students collectively acknowledged the supreme importance of informative news. According to students, exposure to world events, politics, and economic affairs all wield a measurable amount of importance in daily activities. While some admittedly decline to follow news with much gusto, majority opinion still ruled that being aware of surrounding events is an important factor in the development of the younger generation. As awareness was a common reason for media interaction, students used media for unique purposes according to their interests. Furthermore, the attention towards articles and stories developed through open approaches to news presented in an impressive way. OU students utilize the media to glean information, entertainment, and general exposure to their surrounding environment. Although the levels of attention varied and the interests directed what specific aspect of media they followed, the importance of media has a definite impact across campus.

Jour 101 Interview

While getting to know students around the Ohio University campus, the effects of media discussed in the Journalism 101 class were easily noticed. Although we are similar in being Ohio University students, the variety of importance, interaction, and opinions is wide-ranged.

All students interviewed have daily interaction with the media. However, the type of media they follow differs. Although we learned that different mediums could relay different messages, most students don’t compare, therefore they don’t notice. Their main concern is convenience. College students don’t have time, nor do they make time for news throughout the day. Most use television, but they aren’t looking for something specific. If that is the case, they will go online and find the exact story they’re looking for.

Although finding time is hard, everyone agrees that daily news interaction is important. By paying attention to the media daily, students feel aware of what is happening in their world and beyond. They want to stay current. Again, this is on a convenience basis. Those who want to discuss news later, use the news as a support system for their opinion. They follow news stations and reporters who agree with their opinion.
